Ghost Ship, Part 2

Begin Act III

SCENE: Opens to Chakotay waking up in a cell, Tom sitting in the corner.

CHAKOTAY:
Where are we?

PARIS:
In a cell.

CHAKOTAY:
I can see that. How did we get here?

PARIS:
The last thing I remember was getting hit in the face with a disruptor rifle. What would the JemíHadar be doing in the Delta Quadrant?

CHAKOTAY:
Perhaps the Dominion has taken over the Alpha Quadrant.

PARIS:
Or maybe they just got lost on the way to taking it over.

:The cell door opens and three armed JemíHadar walk in, followed by a Vorta.

VORTA:
Well, this is certainly interesting. Who are you?

CHAKOTAY:
Iím commander Chakotay of the Federation Starship Voyager.

VORTA:
Voyager? That name sounds familiar... Tell me, what where you doing in that shuttlecraft?

CHAKOTAY:
We were looking for a wormhole that possibly opened up near here. We have been lost in the Delta quadrant for almost three years now.

VORTA:
Ah yes, I remember now. Voyager was that ship lost in the Badlands all those years back. You know there was quite an intensive search that went on for you back then. It helped us quite a bit, actually.

:During this time, Paris has been becoming rather restless.

PARIS:
What are you talking about? (Rather feverishly)

VORTA:
Why, didnít you know? Iím afraid thereís nothing left of your poor Federation. The Dominion has taken over the Alpha quadrant.

PARIS:
NO!
(Screaming, he gets up and takes out both JemíHadar. Chakotay follows his lead by knocking out the Vorta)

:They both run out of the cell

CHAKOTAY:
Are you all right?

TOM:
I think the inoculate is starting to wear off.

CHAKOTAY:
We have to get back to the shuttle. Any ideas?

:Tom looks around, and picks up the Vortaís communicator. He holds it up in front of Chakotay.

SCENE: Voyager parked across from Defiant
:Sickbay

DOCTOR:
Hmmm... This is interesting.

JANEWAY:
What is it?

DOCTOR:
The DNA samples I extracted from the neck of the victim have turned up some quite startling results. It appears that he was strangled... By a JemíHadar.

JANEWAY:
A JemíHadar? What would they be doing in the Delta Quadrant... Unless... Unless the Alpha quadrant has been taken over by the Dominion...

:Enter Kim.

KIM:
Captain, Iíve completed a thorough scan of the Defiant. I canít find any sign of life other than BeLanna installing the pattern enhancers.

JANEWAY:
The JemíHadar have been genetically bred killing machines, I donít think itís going to be too easy finding them. Starfleet Intelligence suggested that they possessed some sort of Chameleon Field that could render them undetectable to sensors.

DOCTOR:
According to the decay rating, I would say that this happened several hours ago. They may no longer be aboard the ship.

JANEWAY:
Iíll just be glad when this is all over with. Have we gotten any word yet from the shuttle?

KIM:
Nothing yet.

TORRES: (filtered)
Transporter room to captain Janeway.

JANEWAY:
Go ahead BeLanna.

TORRES: (filtered)
The pattern enhancers have been installed and we are ready to start beaming equipment directly to cargo bay three.

JANEWAY:
Get it done as fast as you can BeLanna. Iím getting rather anxious to put some space between us and that ghost ship out there.

TORRES: (filtered)
Aye, captain.

TUVOK: (filtered)
Tuvok to captain Janeway. Please report to the bridge.

JANEWAY:
Iím on my way.

:Hallway on the JemíHadar ship.
:Paris and Chakotay are hiding behind a bulkhead. Paris is modifying the communicator to contact the shuttle and Chakotay is keeping watch with a disruptor rifle he stole from the JemíHadar.

PARIS:
Damn it! Come on!

CHAKOTAY:
Calm down! You wonít get us anywhere with that attitude.

:Tom throws down the communicator and stands up.

TOM:
Whoís the one with the attitude problem? Huh? Iím the one whoís gotta get us out of this mess!

CHAKOTAY:
Oh, like you did on Draken Nine? Your little stunt almost got us killed!

TOM:
Oh, very good of you to remind me of that. Iím glad your still holding it against me. At least you didnít get caught!

CHAKOTAY:
All right! Thatís enough! Now you know this interphase is affecting our minds. We gotta work through it, both of us together, or weíll never get outta here!

:Just then, a disruptor blast explodes above Parisí head. Tom ducks, and Chakotay fires, killing the oncoming JemíHadar. However, more follow behind.

TOM:
Ok, I get your point!

END ACT III
BEGIN ACT IV

:Hallway on JemíHadar Ship
TOM:
Iíve rigged the communicator to contact the shuttlecraft. (he activates it) Paris to computer. Two to beam up.

:They both disappear in a transporter beam.

SCENE: Voyager parked across from Defiant
:Bridge

JANEWAY:
What is it, Tuvok?

TUVOK:
I wanted you to see this, captain. For the past few minutes Iíve been picking up strange readings from inside the interphase anomaly. They look like warp signatures.

JANEWAY:
Could it be our shuttle?

TUVOK:
Itís certainly possible. However, it has been stationary for several minutes now.

JANEWAY:
Can we use the same tractor beam we used to pull out the Defiant to do the same with the shuttle?

TUVOK:
I believe so, captain.

JANEWAY:
Do it.

SCENE: Voyager fires tractor beam into interphase, JemíHadar fighter appears, with the shuttlecraft tractored beneath it.

TUVOK:
Iím reading several JemíHadar, and two humans aboard the ship. They have not yet detected us.

JANEWAY:
Lock onto Chakotay and Paris and beam them aboard.

:A moment later

TUVOK:
I have them, however, the JemíHadar warship has powered its weapons.

JANEWAY:
Raise shields, arm phasers and photon torpedoes.

TUVOK:
They are firing...

:The deck shakes from the impact on the shields

TUVOK:
Shields are holding.

JANEWAY:
Fire.

:Voyager fires phasers and two photons, destroying the JemíHadar ship. The blast knocks the shuttlecraft into the rift, where it dissapears in a blue haze.

JANEWAY:
A bit excessive, wouldnít you say Mr. Tuvok?

TUVOK:
It was, as they say, a lucky shot. Unfortunately, the blast has knocked the shuttlecraft back into the rift.

JANEWAY:
Donít worry about it. You have the bridge. Iíll be in sickbay.

:Exit Janeway
:Sickbay

DOCTOR:
(As he is running a scanner over Parisís head)
You have very mild brain damage due to extensive exposure to the spacial interphase. However, itís not serious, and I think you are going to be fine.

CHAKOTAY:
Tom, I just want you to know that I didnít mean what I said over on that ship.

PARIS:
No, itís my fault for taking it out so hard on you. I shouldnít have done that.

DOCTOR:
Well, if you two are done with your male bonding, you may go back to work now.

JANEWAY:
Did you two find the wormhole?

CHAKOTAY:
No, we were hardly in there for over an hour before we were captured.

TUVOK: (filtered)
Red alert. All senior staff, please report to the bridge.

:Janeway and Chakotay share glances as they walk out the door of sickbay.

END ACT IV
BEGIN ACT V

:Bridge

JANEWAY:
Whatís going on?

TUVOK:
The intensity of the spacial interphase has doubled over the past few seconds.

JANEWAY:
Is there any way of closing it?

TORRES:
I started working on that as soon as we got done transporting materials off of the Defiant, and I believe that if we fire an intense tetryon particle beam into the rift, we may be able to close it.

JANEWAY:
Get on it. I guess we may as well forget about a wormhole on the other side. For all we know, that JemíHadar ship may have just fallen into an unstable one and ended up here on accident.

CHAKOTAY:
That was certainly how it seemed while we were over there.

TUVOK:
Captain, Iíve had to raise shields to maximum power to protect us from the interphase. I do not know how much longer they will hold.

KIM:
Captain, the Defiant is lost hull integrity. Iím picking up explosions all over the ship from antimatter containment pods. Sheís starting to go!

ON SCREEN: The Defiant explodes.

TORRES:
Captain, weíre ready.

JANEWAY:
Do it.

:Voyager fires a deflector beam at the rift, and it starts to collapse

TORRES:
Itís working! The rift is closing.

KIM:
Captain, Iím getting a message from inside the rift... audio only.

JANEWAY:
Letís here it.

MAN: (filtered and garbled)
This is captain Thomas Arkcana of the Federation Starship Protostar to the ship on the other side of the rift. We followed a JemíHadar warship into this area of space and just a few moments ago detected a shuttlecraft coming out of a spacial anomaly. May I ask what you were doing with a Federation shuttlecraft?

JANEWAY:
BeLanna! Stop the tetryon beam! Mr. Kim, open a channel!

KIM:
Channel open.

JANEWAY:
This is captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation Starship Voyager. We have been lost in the Delta quadrant for about three years now, and have been trying to find our way back. Is there a wormhole somewhere in the rift connecting the two quadrants together?

TORRES:
Captain, the rift is still collapsing!

JANEWAY:
Tom, take us in, now!

SCENE: Voyager flies towards the rift, but it steadily collapses.

PARIS:
Weíre not going to make it...

JANEWAY:
Can we go to warp?

PARIS:
Not without tearing the ship apart...

JANEWAY:
Mr. Kim, fire a log buoy into that rift before it collapses!

KIM:
Firing buoy!

TUVOK:
The rift has collapsed, captain.

JANEWAY:
Did the buoy make it?

KIM:
Scanning... No, Iím picking it up just ahead.

:Everyone gives signs of sorrow, then Kimís console begins to beep.

KIM:
Wait a second... Captain, itís not our buoy! Itís from the Protostar!

JANEWAY: (now very perky)
Lock onto it and beam it aboard.

SCENE: Voyager in warp

JANEWAY:
Captainís log, supplemental. BeLanna has started work using the old parts from the Defiant to repair our own critical systems, while the buoy we picked up has been analyzed. It contains coordinates for a star system only a few light-years off course of home. I have decided to head for that system, in hopes that they Federation has found a way to bring us home.
