|TWGuild.com has the unique distinction of being both a Star Trek fan fiction archive and a Star Trek fan fiction index. An archive hosts the stories on site or on their own webserver. An index maintains links referencing stories that are hosted off site or on the authors webserver.
Trek Writer's Guild is always accepting submissions. Whether you want the story hosted on our site, or just linked back to your own, we are happy to help out. It is our primary purpose. Sure, making up Star Trek Captions is fun, but we live for fan fiction!
We want to hear from you! What are you writing? Let us know! Its what we do, its what we're good at! We encourage and promote Star Trek fan fiction!
Submission has a few steps, and depends on how you wish your fan fiction stories to be hosted.
Host your fan fiction yourself on your own website.
Have TWGuild.com host your fan fiction stories for you.
Host your fan fiction yourself
If you plan to host your fan fiction stories yourself on your own website then all you need to do is
Register with TWGuild.com and establish a User & Author account. This will give you access to the Archive Update Tool and other useful tools that TWG provides for all authors.
Once you are registered and have accessed your account you can begin creating Archive Entries with the easy Archive Update Tool. Make sure to properly reference your off site fan fiction with the correct URL or link.
You may add as many Archive Entries as you need, but be aware that our Update Manager will space out activating them in the archive to provide more coverage for exposure, and avoid swamping the archive. Swamping the archive is actually bad for exposing new readers to your stories, and rude to other writers. We encourage you to post all your stories at once if you like, but we will manage activating them for their most effective exposure to our readership.
Have TWGuild.com host your fan fiction
If you would like to have your stories hosted by TWGuild.com you need to
Register with TWGuild.com and establish a User & Author account.
You can then begin using the Archive Update Tool to create Archive Entries for your stories. Once you have made an entry for a story you can then submit your story via email by following these instructions.
Please be sure to follow these instructions carefully and create the Archive Entry before you submit your story via email, or we cannot guarantee it will be posted in good time, or at all.
- Know what file format you're writing in!
TWGuild.com accepts 2 file formats for sending your story as an attachment.
- Text file --> .TXT extension
- Microsoft Word file --> .DOC extension
It can be very time consuming to format stories that are submitted via email, especially unhelpful submissions made in obscure or rare word processor formats.
If you are confused about file formats or what word processor you are using then it would be better for you to cut and paste the story into the body of an email. If anything goes wrong we can walk you step by step through the process till we get it right. It may take longer, but we have a great deal of experience in making this happen.
Take time to format your story for consistency!
Most word processors handle formatting the same way, showing us tabbed paragraphs, bolding and italics. However, when opened by a different word processor (if at all possible) or when saved to a plain text file, all of that formatting is removed or changed. Please maintain a clear and consistant way of identifying new paragraphs, whether it is a blank line between each, a tab starting each paragraph, or even just a few spaces, the consistency it the key.
Tell us who you are and about your story!
Please make the subject line for your email submission:
TWG SUBMIT - (your_name) - (story_title)
Replace the items in parentheses with Your Name and the Title of Your Story.
In the body of the email include these important pieces of information:
Send us your story!
- Your real name
- Your TWG Username (From Registering with TWGuild.com)
- When the story was WRITTEN
- What series the story is
- The title of the story
- A 25 word or less synopsis of the story
- And then the story itself!
In order to cut down on the number of incorrect and difficult submissions we have decided to move the submission email address and only show it on the Archive Update Tool itself. Once you have registered with TWGuild.com, go into Archive Tools and click Create New Archive Entry!
Once your email is received our staff will email you back and let you know how everything went! We'll also send you a notice as soon as the story gets posted, which is usually a one week turn around.
